Lachlan Harris
QIMR Berghofer
Dr Lachlan Harris completed his PhD at The University of Queensland (2013–2017) in A/Prof. Michael Piper’s lab, investigating NFI transcription factors in neural stem cells and their role in neuron production.
He then moved to the Francis Crick Institute as a Crick Postdoctoral Fellow, where he studied adult neural stem cell quiescence. His work revealed that stem cells deepen their quiescence with age to sustain lifelong neurogenesis, uncovering key molecular pathways that regulate this process.
Recognising quiescence as a major barrier in brain cancer, he returned to QIMR Berghofer in 2021 to translate neuroscience insights into glioma treatment strategies. In 2023, he established the Cancer Neuroscience Laboratory, where he continues to investigate quiescence in both adult neural stem cells and brain cancer, with a particular focus on glioma.
